We have been to Alaska many times and in gift shops in several different towns. We have done cruises and just traveled around. It is interesting that somebody else said that this is just another tourist gift shop. I completely disagree. They have some of the standard stuff (although not a lot percentage wise). They have a lot more real local things than most places. I met both Rod and his wife. They have been in Haines a long time and have a lot of good history and information about the area. His knives are beautiful and so are some of the pens that he makes. He can tell you the history of the wood that he puts into each one. Very interesting. I bought a pen and a knife and will definitely be back. One last note. They have great fudge. Not as many flavor choices as the touristy chain places in AK but it is very good and it is considerably cheaper per pound. Great Place owned by locals...not the cruise ships! Stopped in during our cruise stop. Owners are incredibly friendly and very pro police and pro military which is awesome. Loved talking to them. Wife bought a nice souvenir Christmas tree ornament for a good price. Friendliest people you will ever meet. Rod and Rhonda Hinson are the owners of Alaska Rods and it great to support local businesses. Best fudge ever and they ship to the lower 48! Wonderful selection of handmade and local made gifts. Rod makes all the knives, turns the pens, and of course makes the fudge. I love Haines and one of the reasons is the owners of Alaska Rods. Local family run shop in Beautiful Haines. Handmade knives, Alaskan made crafts, and The freshest best fudge ever. Great small gifts cards and postcards. A must stop for a little break in Haines. Decent selection, but the store is crowded and not very friendly. Lots of tourist junk. They are selling their politics as well, as the Trump photos and Confederate flags proclaim, if that's your thing. Good selection of photos and the owners custom decorated knives. There are other shops in town that are better in my opinion.
