Booked thru our host at Hitchup RV Campground. Picked up at the camp.Young, knowledgeable, enthusiastic crew took us upriver, pointed out local flora, explained safety rules, provided with Wellington rubber boots, and extra layers, if needed, and we set off. There aren't a whole lot of salmon running this time of year, but our guide steered our raft within ten feet of eagles on the ground, where the eagles were quite cooperative in posing, feathers ruffled by the stiff wind. Plenty of soaring eagles, a juvenile posted up on a nearby tree, and to top it off 6 trumpeter swans on a bank nearby. Rustin and Liam were great guides and worked hard to get us through the channels closest to the birds. The rest of the crew bused and fed us and shared their enthusiasm for their work and the work of the Bald Eagle Foundation. Highly recommend this trip. Worth every penny! We thoroughly ENJOYED our trip!! From the very beginning of leaving Skagway on the ferry to the port of Haines was breathtaking going up through the scenic mountains. As soon as we arrived our tour guide Liam was waiting for us with a welcoming smile and directed us to our shuttle and driver Aaron who was also welcoming. We then headed off to our put in point in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Reserve, about a 40 minute drive up stream, where Liam gave us plenty of information about the town of Haines, but more so on the vegetation and landscape!! When we arrived we were then met by Marley, the lead river guide for the day, and Charlie another guide. We were given PFD's, rubber boots and extra layers for warmth if needed. Marley did a great job explaining the safety procedures and then we boarded and off we went! The views that we were surrounded by were beyond amazing, truly words cannot describe. Marley and Liam guided the two boats and found us at least 3 Bald Eagles to view VERY CLOSELY....it was exciting!!! After we took out about 7miles down river (1.5 hrs) we were greeted by Aaron and Charlie again who had our lunch ready for us. We had an assortment of sandwiches, chips, packaged baby carrots, oranges, chocolate chip cookies and drinks. Perfect for the end of the trip. If you are expecting the "gourmet" lunch experience then expect to pay a lot more for an excursion! These guys were professional, on time and most of all, down to earth good people. I do not regret spending the first half of my day in Skagway/ Haines with these folks!! Thank you for a great day!! A confusing booking experience with Holland America, but seemed to be the guide company lack of organization. Guide on bus ride not very informative about the town if Haines. Eagle float safe, but lack of Eagles disappointing, we saw one nesting pair. Picnic lunch very basic, not matching cost of this trip. We saw more Eagles in the harbor of Haines and Skagway than we did on the Eagle Preserve float. .
